AlloDerm, made by LifeCell, is made from skin donated by human cadavers. The donated skin is treated to remove any cells and antigens that a patient's body might reject as foreign. The structure that remains acts as a sort of lattice on which the patient's own cells can grow. Originally developed to treat burns, AlloDerm has also become popular for hernia repairs and breast reconstruction.
