Brown & Crouppen has thrived because of our shared commitment to deliver the best possible service to clients throughout Missouri and the United States. A large area of our concentration is dangerous drug litigation involving manufacturers and suppliers of unsafe drugs and products.

Prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride) is manufactured by Eli Lilly & Co, and is prescribed for the treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other psychological disorders. The FDA approved Prozac in 1987 for treating depression. It is classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and has had many millions of users.

Prozac has been linked with serious, sometimes fatal, reactions. These reactions include liver damage, liver failure, and suicide. There have also been reports that Prozac may cause aggressive and violent behavior.

In May 2000, a link was drawn between SSRI drugs and suicide. In a recent case tried in Federal Court in Wyoming, a jury awarded a family $6.4 million after a man killed himself and three other people after taking Paxil – a drug similar to Prozac. On October 26, 2004, new research raised more concerns about the safety of Prozac: Columbia University researchers found that mice exposed to Prozac shortly after birth exhibited abnormal emotional behavior in adulthood that appeared to result from a drug-related disruption of a key growth factor linked to brain development.

The Columbia University study offers more evidence that the drugs may not be as safe as once thought.

Earlier that month, the FDA ordered drug manufacturers to include warnings on the packaging of Prozac and similar drugs about a possible increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors among children and adolescents who take them. Other SSRI drugs were Celexa and Zoloft, among others.

If you have been injured by a dangerous drug, the manufacturer may have failed in its duty to design, make, inspect and label the product appropriately. At Brown & Crouppen our experienced team of Prozac and defective drug lawyers provide tough, aggressive representation for Prozac victims and their families. When you choose us to handle your Prozac lawsuit, our entire team becomes fully committed to your cause. We’ll find answers, hold negligent companies responsible and get you the compensation you deserve.
