Charges Filed in Fatal Suspected 100 Mph Dwi Car Accident

Charges of assault and involuntary manslaughter have been filed against a man who is suspected to have been driving drunk. There were a total of seven felony charges. The St. Louis County, Missouri man was allegedly driving his pickup truck more than 100 miles per hour the morning of Sept. 25 when he struck the rear end of a vehicle on I-270. The car accident resulted in the front vehicle flipping over on the roadway, killing two of the passengers and injuring five others.
The accident occurred around 1 a.m. in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant. According to the police report, both of the deaths occurred with passengers who were not wearing their seat belts. All other people involved in the crash, including the driver of the pickup truck, were wearing their seat belts and suffered minor injuries.
Police on the scene reported that the driver, a 20-year-old resident of Florissant, registered at more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit to operate a motor vehicle in Missouri and was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour when his vehicle struck the car. The two passengers who were killed in the accident were thrown from the vehicle as it flipped several times, eventually leaving the road.
The accused was arrested at the scene of the accident on suspicion of drunk driving and involuntary manslaughter. After the charges against him were filed on Sunday, he was held on $100,000 bail.
One of the passengers killed in the accident was a physical education teacher at Parkwood Elementary School.
