Voting Part 2 of 2: How to Vote in Missouri Elections

At Brown and Crouppen, we really want everyone in the state to understand the finer points of Missouri elections. Voting is the foundational concept and virtue for our entire democracy.  The legitimacy of our election process and its results is fundamental to our continued success as a democratic nation.  Your vote matters!  Not just for the Presidential Election but for all of the local and state elections whose outcomes will affect our day to day lives.

A successful vote involves a successful plan.  Here is some information to help ensure you are ready to show up and do your civic duty on November 3, 2020.

Fast Facts:

Missouri General Election: Nov. 3, 2020

Early Voting: Not available

In-Person Absentee Voting: Sep. 22, 2020 to Nov. 2, 2020

You can vote ABSENTEE if you:

  • Are incapacitated or confined due to illness
  • Have contracted coronavirus or at-risk (in 2020) due to the following:
    • Being aged 65 or older
    • Are living in a long-term care facility
    • Have chronic lung disease/asthma Serious heart condition
    • Are immunocompromised
    • Have Diabetes
    • Have chronic kidney disease and are undergoing dialysis
    • Have liver disease
  • Have a conflict due to religious beliefs or practice
  • Are working as an election worker
  • Are incarceration, if still eligible to vote
  • Will be absent from your election jurisdiction on Election Day
  • Have certified participation in an address confidentiality program

Here’s information about voting absentee in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and Kansas City:

St. Louis City

Residents who meet the above criteria may vote absentee in person from now until November 2nd at:

300 North Tucker Blvd.
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and  9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the last two Saturdays before the election

Beginning October 12, St. Louis City residents can also cast absentee votes at these satellite locations:

Central, Buder, Schlafly and Julia Davis libraries

St. Louis County

Residents who meet the above criteria may vote absentee in person from now until November 2nd at:

725 Northwest Plaza Drive in St. Ann
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the last two Saturdays before the election

Beginning October 22, St. Louis County residents who meet the above criteria can also cast absentee votes at these satellite locations:

North County Recreation Center, West County Government Center, South County Government Center and Mid-County Branch Library

Kansas City

Residents may vote absentee in person from now until November 2nd at:

Innovation Room (Suite 100), Level B Union Station
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the last Saturday before the election

Absentee voting by mail:

Eligibility is the same criteria, but you will need your absentee ballot notarized if your eligibility is based upon:

  • A conflict due to religious beliefs or practice
  • Working as an election worker
  • Incarceration, if still eligible to vote
  • Absence on Election Day from your election jurisdiction
  • Certified participation in an address confidentiality program

Deadline to Request an Absentee Ballot by Mail:

Received by Wed Oct 21, 2020 5:00PM CDT

Deadline to Return Completed Absentee Ballot by Mail or in Person to the Election Authority:

Received by Tue Nov 3, 2020 7:00PM CST

Mail-In Voting

  1. You are eligible to vote by mail-in if you are a registered voter.
  2. Complete an application to request a mail-in ballot in person or by mail.
  3. Deliver to election authority by October 21 at 5 p.m. for the November 3 election.
  4. After receiving a ballot, fill it out and have the envelope notarized.
  5. Return your mail-in ballot through U.S. mail in time for its receipt by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Voting identification for in person voting or in person absentee voting:

  • Identification issued by the state of Missouri, an agency of the state, or a local election authority of the state,
  • Identification issued by the United States government or agency thereof,
  • Identification issued by an institution of higher education, including a university, college, vocational and technical school, located within the state of Missouri, or
  • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document that contains the name and address of the voter.

If you encounter a problem voting on Election Day, it is your right to cast a provisional ballot! Your vote will count if you return to the polling place and show proper identification on Election Day or the signature on your provisional ballot is determined by the election authority to match your signature on your voter registration.

Polling places are usually staffed with trained poll workers who can assist you with any issues you encounter on Election Day.
