Newborn Survives Fatal Accident That Kills Parents

A 2-day old male baby was the only survivor after a horrible car accident ended up taking the life of his brother and parents on a Feb 28.
According to police, the Miller County, Missouri, family was traveling to a number of family and friends’ houses to visit before taking the newborn home. The family ended up being struck by a car that crossed the center line.
During the accident, the newborn was ejected from the car. However, he miraculously survived, only sustaining scratches. Police said he was in a baby seat.
His 36-year-old father and 27-year-old mother were found dead at the scene and the 3-year-old brother passed away later at a hospital. He had also been in a booster seat, and his parents had been wearing seat belts.
The baby’s grandmother was told of the incident over the phone. She said her daughter was extremely happy to have given birth to a new child, and that the family was very loving toward each other. The incident, she said, is a nightmare to live through.
Currently, the grandmother has received emergency guardianship, according to an attorney for the family. Other members of the family are already giving the infant support.
One of the most surprising coincidences of the accident was found after the crash occurred. Prior to the tragedy, the family had visited a nursing home where the mother was employed. Police later learned the driver of the car that caused the accident was a 19-year-old female who worked with the mother and was on her way to beginning a shift.
According to the nursing home director, they are concerned for both families and the situation will prove difficult, because they all know the pair of coworkers involved.
The 19-year-old motorist is currently in the Springfield hospital in serious condition, and police are unsure why her vehicle crossed the center line. The crash is still under investigation.
