It only seems fitting to kick off our Women in Law: Spotlight series with the news that the 2020 Women’s Justice Awards Ceremony honored our very own attorney Katie Hubbard with the Litigation Practitioner Award earlier this week.

KATIE HUBBARD HONORED WITH 2020 WOMEN’S JUSTICE AWARD

We join Missouri Lawyers Media in recognizing women across Missouri who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession. Brown & Crouppen extends our congratulations to Katie Hubbard for being selected as an honoree in the 2020 Women’s Justice Awards.

DEMONSTRATING INTEGRITY AND ACUMEN AT TRIAL

Katie Hubbard is a trial lawyer, representing people who have been harmed by negligent parties in complex personal injury cases, with an emphasis on auto accidents, trucking accidents, product liability and premises liability. Katie has litigated many different types of complex personal injury cases in Missouri, Illinois and across the country. She has spent most of her career fighting for injured people and their families, obtaining numerous settlements and awards. Katie has also represented individuals through pro bono work whenever possible.

Katie’s compassion for her injured clients and desire for every person to have access to the court system drives and inspires her love of trial practice. Her belief is that forcing a powerful defendant to be subject to a jury award enforced by a court judgment is the only way ordinary people can receive full compensation.

A LAWYER WHO SERVES THE COMMUNITY OUTSIDE THE COURTROOM

Katie is the President of Mission 1:11, a non-profit she co-founded that provides access to healthcare, economic development, and education through grassroots efforts in Haiti and the Philippines. She travels to St. Marc, Haiti at least annually as part of these efforts. The vision of Mission 1:11 is to partner with local people who know their communities and empower them through education to meet basic needs and help their country thrive.

Katie served on the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice from 2013-2019, a national organization of trial lawyers dedicated to promoting a fair and effective justice system.

As a part of these efforts, she has traveled to Washington D.C. multiple times over the years to meet with legislators and advocate for a fair legal system that helps all people and not just a few. She also helps coordinate community service projects all over the country for AAJ. In 2016, she hosted AAJ lawyers from around the country in St. Louis to volunteer their time at the Good News Food Pantry. In 2017, Katie received the national “Outstanding Public Service Award” from the New Lawyers’ Division of AAJ.

She is also on the Steering Committee for Billie’s Kids Christmas, an annual event in Granite City, Illinois for children in need who would not otherwise have a holiday celebration or gifts.

AN IN-DEMAND SPEAKER AND LEADER IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION

Katie speaks at legal seminars across the country, including AAJ’s Trial Advocacy College: Depositions, in 2018, 2019, and 2020. She has given multiple presentations of End Distracted Driving to educate high school students on the dangers of inattentive driving.

In 2018 and 2019, Katie was selected as a SuperLawyers “Rising Star.” In 2017, 2018, and 2019, she was selected by the National Trial Lawyers Association as “Top 40 Under 40” of civil plaintiff lawyers. Katie was recently named a “Leader of Tomorrow” by the Southwestern Madison County Chamber of Commerce. In 2013, she was selected to the inaugural class of the American Association for Justice Leadership Academy. Her other professional memberships include the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri Bar Association, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Women Lawyers’ Association of St. Louis, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Madison County Bar Association.

Katie served on the Board for the United Way of Greater St. Louis from 2016-2018, is a past Chair of the United Way Tri-Cities Area Auxiliary Council, and has served on the Council for the Tri-Cities Area for the last six years. She has volunteered with the Community Investment Division of United Way for over six years which involves site visits to local nonprofits to help ensure United Way funds are disbursed in the most impactful way possible.

A PROUD SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW GRADUATE

Katie graduated from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2010 and served as Co-President of the Women Law Students’ Association. She spent some of her time at SLU working in the SLU Legal Clinic representing indigent families in legal matters. During law school, Katie also served as a judicial extern for a Circuit Judge in the Illinois Third Judicial Circuit Court in Madison County, Illinois. She obtained her undergraduate degree from McKendree University, where she played soccer for four years, was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and President of the Student Government in her final year.

Katie’s goals for the future are to continue helping those who experience injustice at all levels, in the courtroom and outside of it. She loves to write and perform music and hopes that this side endeavor can also become something that connects people and helps them feel less alone.

Please join our firm as we formally recognize Katie’s incredible ongoing contributions and service in the legal field in Missouri.
