On Monday, January 20th, the St. Louis Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee hosted a Civic Ceremony at St. Louis City Hall to honor ten individuals and organizations for their dedication to keeping Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream alive in our community.

Among the honorees were Tammie Holland, who was recognized posthumously, and Brown & Crouppen, which received recognition as a firm.

I proudly accepted the award on behalf of the firm and delivered a heartfelt speech that highlighted our mission statement and tied it to Dr. King’s powerful words: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Speech Transcript:

My name is Kat Maugh, and I am honored to serve as the Community Outreach Manager at Brown & Crouppen Law Firm.

It is a privilege to stand before you today, surrounded by an extraordinary group of individuals who are united by a shared commitment to making our city a better place. Your efforts inspire us all, and I applaud everything you do to uplift our community.

At Brown & Crouppen, we believe deeply in the power of community. For many years, our firm has been dedicated to supporting and empowering the neighborhoods we serve. This commitment shines through in our partnerships with remarkable organizations like Annie Malone Children and Family Services, Sista Strut, St. Louis PrideFest, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, The Special Olympics of St. Louis, Stray Rescue, Hilljack House, and so many others.

This past year, we proudly packaged Care Kits for the unhoused in our community, hosted diaper and period supply drives for the St. Louis Diaper Bank and STL Period Alliance, packaged meals for Operation Food Search, and donated socks and underwear to Gateway180. These efforts are just a few examples of our ongoing dedication to addressing the needs of our neighbors.

Our mission is clear: To provide outstanding legal representation, while at the same time offering a superior client experience. Our goal is to level the playing field so that every person, regardless of their race, gender, orientation, religion, age or income, can stand on even ground with giant corporations who would otherwise deny them justice.

As Dr. King so powerfully reminded us, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Whether through legal advocacy, community events, or educational initiatives, we want you to know that Brown & Crouppen stands with you. We are here to support, advocate for, and celebrate the strength and resilience of our community.

Thank you for this incredible honor and for allowing us to be a part of your lives. Together, let’s continue working to support one another and create a brighter future for everyone.
