Our Committed Legal Team Is Ready To Support You
Our team’s results and commitment to our clients have made us one of the most honored firms in the Midwest.
Managing partner Andy Crouppen grew up watching his father, co-founder Terry Crouppen, and his law partner, Ron Brown, seek justice for the injured. He fights for people with personal injury claims and their families in wrongful death cases. The National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 100 Lawyers” and Missouri Lawyers Media’s “Law Firm Leader” awards recognize how Andy impacts others’ lives.
Managing partner Ed Herman pursues justice for everyday people and educates them about their legal rights. Types of Personal Injury Cases We Handle in Lenexa
From fender-benders to fatal injuries, our Lenexa personal injury lawyers handle it all. Here are just some of the case types we routinely take on:
Car Accidents
No matter how careful you are, you may still have a crash with a driver who followed you too closely, turned in front of you, sped through a light, or whose reaction times were slowed by drugs or alcohol. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, there were 10,087 traffic accidents in Johnson County in 2023, resulting in 3,400 injuries and 24 deaths.
Our car accident lawyers have significant success in these claims, including a $365,000 settlement that attorney Richard J. Zalasky secured for a client who was the victim of a rear-end collision. Contact our Lenexa personal injury attorneys to help you file quickly to preserve evidence and maximize your claim.
Truck Accidents
Trucks often weigh 20 to 30 times more than passenger vehicles, and collisions can result in severe injuries, deaths, and property damage. Our skilled truck accident lawyers handle cases involving everything from drowsy drivers, rollovers, improper lane changes, and more.
Trucking companies must carry sizeable insurance policies under federal motor carrier laws and are generally responsible for the actions of their drivers. Significant damages and large policies often lead to contested claims. Despite the challenges these complex cases present, our attorney Tom Davis settled a trucking case for $390,000, which he called “a miracle result.”
Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists have little to protect them in an accident. In 2023, there were 926 crashes involving motorcycles in Kansas, with a staggering 83% resulting in injury or death.
Victims in motorcycle accidents may face life-changing injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, fractured bones, internal bleeding, and spine and neck trauma. Our experienced motorcycle accident lawyers use meticulous evidence collection and analysis in these cases. Attorney Tom Davis settled a motorcycle accident claim for $375,000 in damages, plus a $75,000 UIM claim.
Slip and Fall Accidents
According to the CDC, unintentional falls were the number-one cause of nonfatal emergency room visits in 2023. When property owners, business owners, or other responsible parties fail to reasonably maintain their premises, they may be liable for your fall injuries.
Our Lenexa personal injury attorneys represent people who are injured due to slick floors, poorly maintained sidewalks and parking lots, and other dangerous conditions. Our attorney, Stephen L. Bishop, settled an apartment complex slip and fall claim for $637,500, despite our client’s preexisting conditions.
Workers' Compensation
In 2023, there were 24,200 reported workplace injuries and illnesses in Kansas. Another 53 workers lost their lives. Employers’ workers’ compensation insurance covers most work-related injuries and deaths. However, insurance companies don’t always act in the best interests of injured employees.
We handle all types of workers’ compensation cases, including appeals. If you were hurt on the job, our personal injury lawyers in Lenexa can review your case, gather evidence, and fight to prove that you deserve benefits that match your harm. We will also advise you if you are eligible to file a third-party lawsuit—for example, if a subcontractor, rather than your employer, was responsible for your injuries.
Dog Bite Injuries
People in Lenexa and the surrounding area are injured by dog bites and in falls after a dog chases or jumps on them. If a negligent pet owner failed to follow state or Lenexa animal control laws and you were harmed, you may be eligible to collect from their homeowners’ insurance or file a lawsuit for damages.
Dog bites can lead to lacerations and puncture wounds with a risk of infection and nerve damage. Others injured by dogs suffer broken bones, concussions, and other severe harm. Our personal injury lawyers know how to collect the evidence you need to prove that a dog or other animal owner was negligent and that you deserve damages.
Wrongful Death
Motor vehicle crashes, workplace incidents, and other accidents sometimes have tragic results. Under the Kansas wrongful death law, if your loved one could have filed a personal injury claim had they survived, you can file a wrongful death claim against the party you allege caused their death.
Our lawyers have experience in a wide range of personal injury cases, so we know how to collect critical evidence to establish liability if your loved one dies due to someone else’s negligence. We’ve secured compensation in numerous wrongful death cases, including a $7.5 million settlement recovered by attorney Tom Davis as co-counsel in a case involving a fatal altercation with a retail employee.
Damages You Can Pursue in a Lenexa Personal Injury Claim
If you were injured because of someone else’s actions, you can file a personal injury lawsuit seeking economic and non-economic damages. Your economic losses are financial, while non-economic losses are related to your psychological harm.
The damages you can seek cover short and long-term harm, and include:
- Pain and suffering
- Past and future medical expenses
- Lost wages and future earning capacity
- Rehabilitation
- Home nursing
- Loss of consortium
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Funeral costs, loss of guidance, and other wrongful death damages
A judge may allow punitive damages in Kansas in limited cases involving fraud, malice, or willful or wanton conduct. The state limits these damages to the lesser of the defendant’s gross yearly income or $5 million. If the defendant profited, you can seek 1.5 times the profit if that is higher than the general cap.
Our personal injury attorneys have significant experience calculating damages across case types. Some of our notable case results include:
- $40 million for the families of victims of a dangerous drug
- $500,000 after a rear-end car accident that pushed our client off the road
- $300,000 settlement for a slip and fall on non-compliant stairs.

Statute of Limitations for Lenexa Personal Injury Lawsuits
A statute of limitations dictates how long you have to file a personal injury lawsuit. Under Kansas Statutes Section 60-513, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims is generally two years from the date of the accident.
The state’s personal injury statute of limitations law includes a delayed discovery rule. The time you have to file an action doesn’t start until you discover or reasonably should have discovered your harm. In most cases, that is the accident date. In other situations, such as some medical malpractice cases, you may not immediately know you have a cause of action.
The state provides limited exceptions, such as for minors under Kansas Statutes Section 60-515. Children injured in accidents generally have one year from their 18th birthday to file a suit.
Never assume that you have more than two years to file your claim. Missing the deadline could mean losing your right to compensation entirely. To protect your case, consult an experienced Lenexa personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
